Moritane was primarily a painter but he also led a team of artists who drew the pictures for a woodblock-printed, five volume album entitled Honzō Tsūkan Shōzu (Faithful Illustrations of Medicinal Herbs). It was authored by Moritaka Tanba and published in 1853. This gallery shows the forty-two pictures included in volume 1. Click on a picture to enlarge it. As the album’s title states, the plants were drawn in a true to life way.
